Gundlach started in the sheet metal business in 1902 at the age of 14.  He took over management of the firm in 1920.  He served as treasurer of the National Sheet Metal Association (SMACNA) from its initial organizing meeting August 14, 1943 until he retired in 1955. Upon his retirement, he was voted an Honorary Member for life.  He also was a member the Board of Directors of the Ohio Sheet Metal Association, and served as their secretary and president. Carl's sons, Wesley F. and Charles W. went on to carry the Company to the third generation.  Carl retired after 53 years in the sheet metal business.  He passed away in 1969.
