Efficiency Efficiency ratings are like gas mileage for your heating system -- the higher the rating, the more efficient the product. AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) is the measurement used to gauge furnace heating fuel usage.  The Infinity® 96 gas furnace receives up to 96.6% AFUE.  HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) is a measurement used to gauge the heating mode of heat pumps.  Most new units have ratings from 7.0 to 9.4. The Infinity® 19 heat pump receives up to 9.5 HSFP. ENERGY STAR® is a set of guidelines created by the Federal government to for energy efficiency. Sound  QuietTech™ is Carrier's noise reduction system that allows comfortable heat while generating very little noise in the process.  Carrier manufactures gas furnaces that are among the most quiet in the industry.  Tested in a laboratory specifically built to a resemble a typical residence, sound level recordings are produced at steady rate and at low-fire (the most common operating mode) and measured 3 feet from the furnace. The Infinity® ICS furnace operates at 40 decibels, the same sound level as a refrigerator.  A whisper is measured at 30 decibels while normal conversation is measured at 60 decibels.
